Museu de arte antiga

Rua Janelas Verdes


The museum, housed in a 17th century palace,
has the largest collection of paintings in Portugal
from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
Especially rich in early religious works of
Portuguese artists. Its displays of sculpture,
Silverware, porcelain and applied arts are also worth
to mention. You can find among them great
examples of African and Oriental Art. After visiting the
exhibitions do not forget to check the museum café,
has a great garden with a nice view to the river.

Museu Gulbenkian

Avenida de Berna 45 A


No doubt this is Portugal’s finest museum.
Founded by an Armenian immigrant, Gulbenkian, the
Collection has two circuits, the first is dedicated
Ancient oriental and classic art, such as: Egyptian,
Greek-Roman, Oriental Islamic, Armenian and
Oriental. The second circuit is about European Art:
Sculptures and paintings from 15th to 17th
Century and decorative arts from the 18th century.
Finally Art Nouveau with jewelry of René Lalique.

Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 6pm. Closed on
Mondays and holidays: 1st January, Easter
Sunday , 1st May, 25th December.

Orient Museum

Avenida Brasília - Doca de Alcântara

Come and experience the Orient in Lisbon, in this one of a kind Museum. Here one can appreciate Chinese art, Indo-Portuguese art (Portuguese colonial style), Japanese art and art from Timor. Every one of them a testimony to the long relationship between Portugal and the Orient. Their cultural program is also very inviting, with oriental music, dance, theatre and cinema.

Museu dos coches

Praça Afonso de Albuquerque


The museum located in the Palace of Belém which
was the formal riding school built in the early 18th
century. The collection has a great variety of coaches
made in Portugal, Austria, France and Spain starting
with a plain 17th century coach and followed by
coaches extremely sumptuous with red velvet and
gold interior and carved exteriors.

Museu da Marinha

Praça do Império


The museum housed in the west wing of the
Jerónimos Monastery. The exhibition is especially
devoted to the Discoveries: progress of
shipbuilding of different caravels, navigational
instruments, astrolabes, replicas of 16th century
world maps. Besides them there are a few models of
modern Portuguese ships from the 20th century.

Museu Azulejo

Rua Madre de Deus 4.


The museum is located in the cloister of a 14th
century convent. The collection presents the
evolution of tile-making from the time of the Moors,
who introduced it in Portugal, through Spanish
influence till Portugal’s own present style.

The Berardo Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art, is on of the largest and most recent collections of it’s kind in the World. THE HOUSE OF FADO AND THE PORTUGUESE GUITAR
