Doclisboa - 9th International Film Festival

Tue, 2011-10-18

Doclisboa - 9th International Film Festival - returns to the capital to share with its audience a live picture of the state of the world and documentary language.

Film premieres will be screened during the eleven days of the festival with retrospectives and tributes to the greatest names of reality film. For this edition of doc Lisboa there will be a historical retrospective of films about the wars of liberation of the Portuguese colonies in Africa. A sample of the most significant films shot by the Liberation Movements, whose rarity and dispersion promise reflection, discovery and excitement.

Another retrospective will be devoted to Harun Farocki, one of the most renowned German contemporary filmmakers, media artist and theorist, author of a variety of work in film and video, all deeply politicized. The most important documentaries of the year, both Portuguese and international.
Highlights will also include the work of Jean Rouch (1917-2004), ethnologist and film director, honored with a show that promises to be the largest retrospective of the author, ever held in Portugal.
His work, in constant renovation since the 1950’s when he began filming in Africa, influenced modern cinema, even Nouvelle Vague itself. This work has been undergoing restoration since 2008 by the Centre National de la Cinématographie.

From October 20 to 30, 11am to 11pm in the
auditoriums of Culturgest, Caixa Geral de Depósitos building, Rua Arco do Cego (Metro station: Campo Pequeno). Tickets 3.50 euros per session.
