The Perspective of Things

Tue, 2011-11-08

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Museum presents "The Perspective of Things. Still Life in Europe ", an exhibition already displayed on the subject in 2010.

This second part is dedicated to the modernity of the 19th century and the changes that have occurred in the first half of the 20th century.

Visitors are offered a journey across the various periods and geographical setting of still life in Western painting, illustrated with major works by painters who have stood out on this genre. Highlights of this exhibit include the Still Life of Claude Monet, which is part of the collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. Post-Impressionist painters like Cezanne, Van Gogh and Gauguin are also represented by major works.

The exhibition will also show how the still life, while a pictorial genre, became a vehicle for even more radical experimentation with Picasso, Braque and Matisse. There will also be the perspectives of some artists who were involved in the new realities of the subjective experience, such as Magritte and Dali.

Until January 8, 2012, Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 6pm, Thursday and Saturday 10am to 8pm, Exhibition Gallery, Gulbenkian Foundation, Avenida de Berna (Metro station: Praça de Espanha). Admission 5 euros.
