Build in 1833 after a cholera outbreak, the Prazeres Cemetery is considered by many as an “open sky museum”. By walking through it one can get inputs on Portuguese history, architecture and urbanism, and understand the evolution of people’s relation with death. The Chapel at the cemetery also works as a little museum where one can get to know all sort of worship objects, see an Autopsy Room, or browse through old death records and old funeral photographs.
